FAT FILLING

WHAT IS FAT FILLING?

Fat filling is a reconstruction technique that can be used in the breasts. During the procedure, fat is removed from one part of the body, such the thighs, abdomen, or buttocks by means of liposuction. It is then processed into a liquid form, and injected into the breast area to recreate a natural-looking breast.

WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE INVOLVE?

The fat that is used to reconstruct the breasts can be extracted from various areas of the body where there is enough fat, including the abdomen and thighs. The fat is extracted by means of liposuction, a procedure in which excess fat cells are suctioned out of the body with the use of a special vacuum.

Once the fat cells have been extracted from the body, they are sterilised and prepared before they are injected into the treatment area. The fat is injected in very small amounts, and is evenly distributed into the treatment area.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

You may experience some bruising, swelling, and sensitivity following treatment. A cold compress can be helpful in minimising swelling, although it should subside gradually over time. You may also need to wear a surgical bra while your body recovers from the procedure.

All swelling should subside within three weeks following treatment, although Dr September will generally only assess the final result after around three months. By this time some of the transplanted fat cells will have died, and any over-correction will have settled. Follow-up treatments may be recommended if you would like to increase the volume of the treatment areas some more.
