BREAST LIFT (MASTOPEXY)
WHAT IS A BREAST LIFT?
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure in which the breasts are reshaped and raised in order to restore a firmer, more youthful appearance. Although a breast lift will not alter the size of the breasts, the procedure may be combined with a breast augmentation or reduction surgery if necessary.
WHY OPT FOR A BREAST LIFT?
A breast lift procedure is an effective means of restoring firmness and elasticity in the breasts, and is a popular option for women who have been through pregnancy and breastfeeding. After pregnancy, it is completely normal to experience some sagging, while weight fluctuations can also cause the breast skin to stretch. Ligaments in the breasts often tend to stretch and sag as a result of the natural ageing process.
You might consider undergoing a breast lift procedure if you have noticed some drooping; if your breasts have lost volume and shape; if you have noticed some asymmetry; or of your nipples point downwards.
WHAT DOES THE PROCEDURE INVOLVE?
There are a number of techniques that may be used during a breast lift procedure. Dr September will advise you of the best option for your needs, depending on the case.
During the procedure, Dr September will make incisions either around the areolas; across the breast creases; or downward from the areola to the breast creases. Excess breast skin will be removed, and your nipples will be repositioned higher on the chest. When the breasts have been sufficiently reshaped, the incisions will be stitched or taped closed.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
After the procedure is complete, your breasts will be bandaged with gauze and you may need to wear a surgical bra for support and comfort. Dr September may place tubes at the site of incision in order to drain any excess fluid from the body.
It is quite normal to experience some swelling and bruising following the procedure. Dr September will advise you as to when you may resume your normal activities.
