CONGENITAL BREAST ABNORMALITY CORRECTIONS
A. TUBEROUS BREAST
Tuberous breasts refer to a condition in which breast tissue does not develop adequately during puberty. Tubular breasts often have a large gap between them, and the area surrounding the nipple sometimes appears to be constricted. In many cases, women with the condition notice a lack of symmetry in their breasts, and the shape of the breasts is oval or pointed, rather than round.
Reconstructive surgery is an effective means of altering the appearance of tubular breasts. During the procedure, the constricted breast tissue is released with the use of a tissue expander or a breast implant. In some cases, the appearance of the nipples may also be enhanced as part of the process.
B. POLAND SYNDROME
Poland syndrome is a condition in which there is a lack of muscle development on one side of the body. Symptoms of the condition include a asymmetry in the body, as well as a lack of chest muscle, an underdeveloped ribcage, an elevated shoulder blade, and underdeveloped breasts in women.
The condition can often be treated by means of reconstructive surgery, in which case the muscles are taken from other areas of the body to reconstruct missing areas of the chest and breasts.
C. ACCESSORY NIPPLE/BREAST TISSUE REMOVAL
An accessory nipple refers to an extra nipple in addition to the two nipples typically located on the breasts. In most cases, accessory nipples occur in the area known as the 'milk line', which extends from the armpit to the genital area on the front of the body.
Although accessory nipples don't cause any health problems, it is possible to have them surgically removed in a relatively simple procedure. The procedure is minimally invasive and requires very little downtime. Scars are generally minimal following treatment.
